I recently got this tattoo done by John at Olde City Tattoo in Philadelphia, PA. It is located at the top of my right arm. The painting is my first attempt at using gouache. I really liked how the fish came out. You can see a larger version of the painting by clicking on the image. The words have 2 meanings... First, that I am unique and I love all things about the ocean. Second, it is a lyric from the song "The Cutter" by my favorite band, Echo & the Bunnymen.

I wanted the traditional sailor songbirds as a tattoo. However, I never found any that I really liked, so I created my own. I made them cuter and more colorful than any that I'd seen before. I got the blue one first at Olde City Tattoo in Philadelphia, PA, because I went with a few girlfriends and I couldn't afford to get both. I got the green one a few months later at the Tattoo Convention. It was done by Lee Burns of Painless Steel Tattoo from Montana. The green bird is my favorite tattoo of all the ones I have. The birds are on the back of my legs (calf muscles).

This is the largest tattoo that I have, located on my lower back. It looks a lot better in person than the little photo. I got this done at the Philadelphia Tattoo Convention back in 1999. It was done by Sister Bear from Colorado. She also did my first tattoo (dolphins around my ankle) at the 1997 convention. |
